In the framework of a research tour 25 members of the German Science Journalists’ Association visited FAIR und GSI. Following a round trip of GSI and the FAIR construction site, the journalists held their annual general meeting on the campus.

286 full-time science journalists from radio and television, print and online media are members of the German Science Journalists’ Association (Wissenschaftspressekonferenz, WPK), which was founded in 1986 and is domiciled in Bonn. The objective of WPK is the promotion of quality science journalism. To this end it offers its members seminars and off-the-record discussions, among other things. In the public arena WPK hosts debates so as to encourage dialog between scientists, policy makers and society.

Several times a year WPK organizes research tours for its members; this year a visit was paid to a number of scientific facilities in Darmstadt and environs. Following a round trip of GSI and a tour of the FAIR construction site the journalists had the opportunity to speak with scientists from FAIR and GSI over lunch and coffee.
